Smartphone sales in the Indian market have slowed down due to lack of actual shipping in January 2025. Despite no shipping, Apple and OPPO have recorded growth during this time period.
Despite the shortage of smartphones, there has been no halt in its sales. The Indian smartphone market recorded a growth of four percent year-on-year (YoY) in 2024, while Vivo became a major player and left Samsung behind.
Shipment of many smartphones in India by January 2025
- According to IDC India report, in January 2025, the Indian smartphone market is expected to see a decline of 9.7 percent this year as compared to every year.
- Smartphone shipping in India in January totaled 11.1 million units shipped.
- There are so many smartphone manufacturers in India, including brands like Vivo, Samsung, and Realme, all of which have seen a decline in shipping.
- Vivo smartphone shipments have seen a decline of 8.1 percent year-on-year.
Samsung was the first smartphone vendor in India to ship in 2024, with shipments declining by 19.5 percent in January this year.
- Like all , Realme also saw a decline of 5.3 percent in January.
- Apple and OPPO are the only two companies in India whose smartphone shipments have not declined
- And in January 2025, Apple’s smartphone shipments saw an increase of 11.7 percent. And similarly, Oppo also saw a growth of 5.9 percent in shipments.
- As per IDC data, Apple is going to be No. 1 in India for next 5 months
- Its market share is expected to increase from 9.2 percent next year in 2024 to 11.4 percent in January 2025.
- IDC India attributed this decline to surplus inventory and low buyer demand.
- The real thing is that despite this decline in phone shipments, Vivo’s market is growing rapidly every year. In January 2024, Vivo acquired 15.8 percent of the Indian smartphone market and in January 2025 it increased from 15.8 to 16.1 percent.
- Similarly, Oppo and Realme also saw an increase in market share. The two companies had a market share of 9.9 percent in January 2024. In January 2025, this share increased to 11.6 percent for Oppo and 10.4 percent for Realme.
- Samsung’s market share declined significantly, falling from 16.2 percent in January 2024 to 14.4 percent in January 2025.
